Monroe on a Budget ? Family history archiving and scrapbooking ...

If you?ve dabbled in, or got hooked by, the scrapbooking bug at any time during the past 15 years, you know that it can be an expensive and time-consuming hobby.

Some of my scrapbooks do fit that description. But unless there is a reason to do an artistic scrapbook, such as one about a favorite vacation or a memorial album, everything in my collection is sorted chronologically and placed in simple clear view binders with sheet protectors.

Yes, I know. This isn?t ?fancy? scrapbooking.

But it doesn?t need to be. The whole point of what has, in recent years, became an art form in its own right, is to have memorabilia and photos easily found, preserved, archived, and identified.

Given the fact I have been involved in genealogy and photography for nearly 25 years, and my journalism career means I was directly involved in major local and sometimes national news events, I have a lot of stuff in my collection.

In fact, I spent much of my vacation the past few days organizing and sorting my family heritage books. I did very little ?fancy work? as the task was to get photos and articles filed correctly, and crossreference details on a family history timeline my siblings and parents have asked me to update.
